Quick Update - Bug Problems Again!

The third grown is running into some problems, about a week ago I found an infestation of Spider Mites, I have sprayed a few times now, and it seems to only keep them under control for a couple days. I may have to perform some serious grooming on the plants before long since many of the leaves have been heavily damaged from the Spider Mites.

However, the plants so far are still maintaining their life. We have had a few zucchini, a couple cucumbers, and some beans in addition to an abundance of lettuce. The lettuce has run it's course at this time and I have removed all of the plants since it was starting to bolt.

I have uploaded new photos to the facebook app page.

You will notice I have changed from the Growing Stage to the Blooming Stage, by changing from a Metal Halide to a High Pressure Sodium Bulb for the light source.

Welcome to My Hydroponic Garden

UPDATE: Click Here for More Photo's

I have decided to start documenting my ventures into the hydroponic gardening world. Many people have shown interest in the concepts and progress of my "shed garden." So I am preparing to build a site that will show the garden's progress and status. My plan is to eventually display a live data feed from the environmental control systems, along with a detailed history of the operating conditions.

During this documentation of my efforts you will likely see that I am very new to the world of hydroponics. I'm sure you will see many newbie blunders through my trial and error process.

Already I am on "Grow #3." My first grow attempt was the Fall of 2009, it was a complete failure with no crops obtained at all due to the dreaded Aphid's that made my warm garden their home. In the winter I restarted the garden with "Grow #2." The second grow attempt was much more successful, obtaining a descent sized crop of Cucumbers and Tomatoes. This second grow was going very well until summer hit, at that time a combination of high temperatures (failed A/C) and bugs brought the grow to a halt. Grow #3 was just started in October 2010, so far it is going fairly well. The only crop to this point has been a large amount of lettuce, but there are zucchini, cucumbers, corn, beans, and swiss chard already forming.

Reminder: This is a temporary site that will be used until the final site is ready to be published.

Here are some photos to get everyone caught on the current status...

9-21-2010: Seeds have been placed into propagation flats, now we wait for germination.

10-10-2010: Germination has been accomplished, now we wait for transplant time.

10-16-2010: Transplantation completed, now we wait for the crops :)

11-9-2010: Starting to take off. Lettuce is growing good, and first male flower on zucchini has bloomed.

11-16-10: Still going strong. I got the trellis for the cucumbers up and they are already climbing.

11-30-10: We are well on our way to "Jungle" classification ;)
12-6-2010: The first ear of corn has started developing.
